The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Endorsed Skills Certification System (SCS) provides a solution to the challenges related to finding the skilled workers companies need. The Skills Certification System is a tool that can be utilized as part of the process for employee selection or promotion. Manufacturers have reported that the certifications improve the hiring process by validating skill levels, which leads to lower hiring and promotion costs.
Skills certifications can help companies with the following (visit http://www.themanufacturinginstitute.org for more information):
* Identify candidates
* Add standards to hiring practices
* Ensure that training programs include knowledge and skills required for the job
* Save money and improve the bottom line
* Develop a certified professional, technical workforce
* Increase Return on Investment
At the next general MVMC Membership meeting, there will be a focus on
Assessments & Credentialing, and a representative from The Manufacturing Institute will be presenting information about the National Association of Manufacturers-Endorsed Certification System. Specifically, they will discuss the WorkKeys assessment and related National Career Readiness Credential.
Companies that have incorporated the WorkKeys assessments into their hiring processes will speak about the value of incorporating certifications to validate candidates’ skills, and their overall return on their investment.
In addition, Lee Wilkins, V.P., Human Resources at Gorman Rupp will be speaking on how this Mansfield, Ohio based company has incorporated the WorkKeys certification system into their employee hiring and training process. This has contributed to a return on investment of $1 million+ for Gorman Rupp.
Attendees will have a chance to interact with other companies that have adopted the NAM-endorsed skills certification system and come away with an understanding about how to get started in using industry-based certifications to take the guesswork out of the selection process.
