The Oh-Penn Interstate Region (Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana Counties in Ohio and Lawrence and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania) has received a $6 million federal grant that will be used for workforce development initiatives to strengthen and increase the regional manufacturing workforce, particularly in key positions.
In order to guide recruitment and training efforts throughout the region we have created a Skills Gap Survey for manufacturers that captures current and forecasted openings and particular skills and competencies that the employers require. The goal is to use the information gleaned from the survey to help manufacturers improve their ability to identify and hire good job candidates and allow future workers to better understand what skills are in demand for their educational plans. The information gathered will also be used to guide discussions with education and training institutions to better align programs and curricula.
To date, the online Skills Gap Survey has been distributed to manufacturers in the region via email. If you are a manufacturer in the region that has not yet completed the survey, please contact Rebecca Moder at email@example.com or Cynthia Grier at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A second survey will be developed based upon the manufacturers’ input and sent to education and training providers to gather more detailed information about the skills and competencies currently covered in their programs and curricula. The manufacturing survey results also will be cross-walked against nationally recognized credentials to determine the best fit.
Stay tuned for more updates on this initiative!
