Over 170 representatives from local manufacturers, government, education and training providers attended the Oh-Penn Manufacturing Forum held on October 31st, 2013 in W. Middlesex, PA. The event highlighted the progress made to date from the Oh-Penn Pathways to Competitiveness grant and revealed the progress made in the first year of the grant. 1,336 credentials have been achieved by individuals in Year 1 alone, or 46% of the projected 2,940.
Also, the new logo that was designed to show the collaboration between the Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition (MVMC) and the Industry Partnership of Lawrence & Mercer Counties was unveiled to the audience. The MVMC of Ohio and the Industry Partnership of PA have worked diligently over the past several years to bring together manufacturers, educators, legislators, students and parents to get them engaged in the conversation. Promoting manufacturing has been buzzing not only in our 5-county region, but across the United States. It is because of this that the OH-Penn Manufacturing Collaborative was formed – in order to find ways to assist manufacturers in promoting family sustaining careers, increasing incumbent worker skills and creating a pool of career-ready candidates through partnerships with educational organizations, vocational programs, and government agencies large and small. Tracy Initihar, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation in Ohio and Dmitry Zhmurkin, Director of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry’s Bureau of Workforce Partnership & Operations were in attendance and praised the collaborative’s efforts.
Action Team breakout sessions were also held during the forum. They are designated to provide input, oversight and monitoring for several categories of activity. These include Employer Engagement, Outreach & Marketing, Pipeline Development, Career Pathways, Work-based Learning and Data & Evaluation. These Action Teams will vary in size and are anticipated to include stakeholders necessary for successful implementation. Action Teams will report periodically to the MVMC and Industry Partnership of PA leadership on their progress and results.
