The Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition held its General Member meeting on January 18th. Nearly 80 members representing manufacturing, education, workforce development and community-based organizations attended.
Participants broke into groups to further discuss planning regarding how to replicate some of the activities that have been successful in Pennsylvania into Ohio, including:
* Educators in the Manufacturing Workplace – opportunities for
teachers to work within manufacturing environments and incorporate real-life examples into lesson plans
* Manufacturing Boot Camps for Counselors, Advisors and Teachers –
one-day tour of local manufacturing facilities to learn about manufacturing jobs and career pathways
* Industrial Career Fairs – event for 10th grade students providing
interactive exposure to manufacturing
Participants also discussed strategies to increase the awareness and adoption of nationally recognized assessments and credentials. The group suggested the next MVMC quarterly meeting focus on the WorkKeys assessment and the related National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), inviting employers who have adopted WorkKeys to discuss their experience and answer questions.
The next MVMC meeting will be held on Friday, April 19 from 9-10:30 a.m.
