On February 28, the Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition members will meet for their first quarter 2014 member meeting. Members will enjoy networking opportunities as well as an informative agenda. On schedule will be a panel discussing how employers can benefit from internships for high school and college students in manufacturing-related programs. Matt Joing, champion for the Oh-Penn Work-Based Learning Action Team and Butech Operations Manager, states, “Recent pilot internship programs in the region that followed a similar model have been met with very positive feedback from employers. Internships provide valuable experience to area students while potentially finding skilled talent that fits your company’s needs.”
Judith Crocker, Director of Workforce & Talent Development with MAGNET, will also participate in the panel discussion and states, “Many employers in NE Ohio and the Mahoning Valley have identified workforce as one of their most significant challenges. Finding qualified workers now and to replace retiring employees in the future is a growing concern. MCCTC and Choffin have partnered with MAGNET to connect skilled students with employers for work based learning experiences. Through these experiences, employers can influence the skill development of these future workers and actively participate in growing the future workforce for the region. At the MVMC Quarterly meeting, employers who participated in this project in 2013 will be on hand to share their experiences and encourage other employers to consider this opportunity”.
